HELP is a general purpose help facility. With HELP one can create a customized help program. You supply the topics and descriptions and HELP will handle the rest. The topics appear under the Topics menu and everything is controlled by the mouse. It couldn't be easier to use!!! Topics of interest can be printed, if desired.
History
-------
HELP was designed for use at Whitnall High School in Greenfield, Wisconsin to aid students in using the Macintosh labs. HELP is likely to be best suited to a computer lab setting, though an individual might find it useful to place notes in an easily accessable place. It works well if you place an alias of HELP in the Apple Menu Items folder (assuming you use System 7.0+).
The Catch
---------
HELP is Shareware. If you plan on using it please send $5.00 for each computer on which you plan to use it to the address below. If the number of machines is greater than seven send $35.00 for an unlimited use site license. When you register you will be entitled to free updates for as long as you (or I) live. Specify if you would prefer updates to be sent by email or U.S. mail.
Legal stuff
----------
The author retains all rights to the software and denies any responsibility for damage or loss of any kind that might result from the use of this software.
How to use it
------------
Use of the program is self-evident. Choosing Print from the File menu will Print the most recently read topic. (Printing is rather slow, so be patient!). Topics are selected from the topics menu, click the mouse to go from page to page. Once a topic is read it is marked with a checkmark.
How to set it up
--------------
Instructions for setting up your own topics are given in the file 'HelpText' which must be in the same directory as the HELP application. You can use TeachText to edit the file, but a programming editor would be better. (A word processor will work provided you remember to save the file as a TEXT file.)
Besides entering text you can also specify spacing, inverse or normal type, the font used, and page breaks. See the sample topic.
So, what's it good for?
--------------------
HELP is ideal for the computer lab to provide a means of supplying users with site specific information. This includes high schools, middle schools, grade schools, and university labs. (It can be invaluable to the lab administrators in saving them from infinite repetitions of commonly asked questions.) The individual could use HELP to maintain a list of frequently used procedures or notes.
The applications are truly endless!!!
